Terms of Service

Curio Bite is an app designed for young people aged 13 to 18, built to help users engage more deeply with subjects they're curious about through short-form cards called Curio Bites, streaks, and a leaderboard. Curio Bite is developed and operated by Algoritmo Lab.

Curio Bite is currently free to use. There are no paid features, subscriptions or in-app purchases. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will publish pricing, billing, cancellation and refund terms before doing so, and where required we will obtain parental consent to any purchase.

Curio Bite is intended for users aged 13 to 18.

If you are under the age of digital consent in your country or region (this age varies by jurisdiction — for example, it may be 13, 16, or another age depending on local law), you may only use the Service with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, as described in Section 3.

By using the Service, you represent that the age you provide at registration is accurate. Providing false age information to bypass parental consent requirements is a violation of these Terms.

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Where required by applicable law, a parent or guardian must provide their name and email address at the time a young user creates an account. This allows us to:

• Notify the parent or guardian that an account has been created;
• Provide the parent or guardian with a Parent Dashboard, through which they can view periodic summaries of the user's activity on the app, and adjust the frequency of these updates or turn them off entirely.

Parental consent obtained during account creation covers the creation and operation of the account. It does not automatically extend to every way a user might interact with us — for example, contacting our support team does not require an account and is not gated by parental consent. See our Privacy Policy for details on how support requests are handled.

A parent or guardian may contact us at any time at privacy@curiobite.comto review, modify, or request deletion of their child's account and associated data.

3.1 Accounts awaiting parent approval

When you create an account, we email your parent or guardian a link asking them to approve it. Until they do, your account is temporary.

• Your parent or guardian has 7 days to approve the account. We send a reminder on day 5.
• You can use Curio Bite normally during those 7 days, and any XP and streaks you earn are kept and carried over once the account is approved.
• If the account is not approved within 7 days, it expires. An expired account can no longer be used, and we delete the data associated with it as described in our Privacy Policy.
• If you entered your parent or guardian's email address incorrectly, you can correct it once, and once only, from within the app. Correcting it sends a fresh approval email, restarts the 7-day period, and cancels the previous approval link. If you need to change it again after that, contact us at account@curiobite.com.

You may browse a limited number of Curio Bites each day without creating an account. Guest use is part of the Service, and these Terms — including Acceptable Use, Intellectual Property, Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability — apply to you when you use Curio Bite as a guest.

Guest use does not create an account, and features that depend on an account — streaks, XP, the leaderboard, the Parent Dashboard and saved preferences — are not available. The preferences you choose as a guest are stored on your device only. To continue beyond the daily limit, or to use those features, you will need to create an account with parental consent as described in Section 3.

5.1 Registration

• You choose a username — the @handle you are known by on the Service. This should not be your real name.
• You provide your education level and country at registration.
• Providing your email address and a profile photo is optional.
• Where parental consent is required, you must provide your parent or guardian's first name and email address as described in Section 3.

5.2 Accuracy and Responsibility

• You agree to provide accurate information when creating and maintaining your account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Each user may maintain only one account, unless we expressly authorise otherwise.
• You must notify us promptly at account@curiobite.com if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

You (or, where applicable, your parent or guardian) may delete your account at any time from within the app, or by requesting deletion from our website at Delete Account without needing to log in, as described in our Privacy Policy.

When a deletion request is made, the account is disabled immediately. We then wait 7 days before permanently deleting your data, in case the request was made by mistake — during this time you or your parent or guardian may email account@curiobite.com to cancel the deletion. After 7 days, all personal data associated with the account is permanently deleted, consistent with our Privacy Policy, except where we are required to retain certain records for legal, safety, or regulatory reasons.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms, engages in conduct harmful to other users, or provides false information at registration (including false age information).

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you (or your parent/guardian, if applicable) before suspending or terminating an account, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the safety of users.

When using the Service, you agree that you will not:

• Impersonate another person, or provide false information about your identity, age, or parental relationship;
• Harass, bully, threaten, or demean other users, including through your username, profile photo, or any message;
• Upload or share content that is unlawful, obscene, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate for a platform used by minors;
• Attempt to circumvent age verification, parental consent mechanisms, or account restrictions;
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service;
• Use automated means (bots, scripts) to access or interact with the Service without our written permission;
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including its servers or networks;
• Use the Service for any purpose that is illegal or prohibited by these Terms.

We reserve the right to remove content, suspend accounts, or take other action in response to violations of this section, at our discretion.

The Service displays certain information you provide — your username and profile photo — to other users on a leaderboard. The leaderboard shows the top users across all of Curio Bite, in a weekly view and a live view for Global and for your country. The leaderboard shows your username and country. Nothing else from your account is shown: your real name, your email address, your parent's details, and your age are never displayed to other users.

You should not include your real name, contact information, or other personal or identifying details in your username or profile photo.

We reserve the right to review, moderate, and remove any username, profile photo, or other user-facing content that violates these Terms or that we determine, in our discretion, to be inappropriate.

If you see a username or profile photo on the leaderboard that concerns you, please report it to us at account@curiobite.com.

By submitting a username or profile photo, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display that content within the Service for the purpose of operating the leaderboard and related features.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may use your contact details to let you know about Curio Bite updates and our paid features. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

The Service relies on third-party providers to operate — including for form processing, workflow automation, email delivery, analytics, and support communications. These providers are listed in our Privacy Policy. Each operates under its own terms and privacy policy, and we are not responsible for their independent acts or omissions, though we take reasonable care in selecting providers that meet appropriate security and privacy standards.

The Service, including its design, features, content (other than user-submitted content), trademarks, and underlying software, is owned by Algoritmo Lab or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service, nor reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code, except as permitted by applicable law.

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any defects will be corrected. Educational content provided through the Service is for general informational purposes and is not a substitute for formal instruction, professional advice, or curriculum requirements.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Algoritmo Lab and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of the service.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or one hundred Singapore dollars (S$100), whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.

You (and, where applicable, your parent or guardian) agree to indemnify and hold harmless Algoritmo Lab and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app, by email, or through the Parent Dashboard, where appropriate.

Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Service and may request account deletion.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore, unless applicable local law affords you additional rights or protections that cannot be waived (for example, certain consumer or minor-protection laws in your home jurisdiction).

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Algoritmo Lab regarding your use of the Service, and supersede any prior agreements.
